Gunners vs. Magpies Betting Pick Tips and Odds
Preview: Arsenal to Out Gun Newcastle
By: Steve Kelsey
A fairly even match on paper, this author believes that the outcome of this match will be determined by offence; a depleted Newcastle striking core against Arsenal’s potent and dynamic offence. Despite making few changes in the off-season (adding only forward Gervinho and a young defender in Carl Jenkinson) Arsene Wenger is confident that his team will make a run at this year’s title despite a whirl of trade rumours and the Arsenal history of starting hot before fading out later in the tournament. With 19 wins in last year’s tournament, and the red hot scoring of Robin van Persie, The Gunners are the odds on favourite to take the match against a Newcastle team which has shown some promise as of late. Last year’s thrilling 4-4 draw has surely left both teams eager to prove that they can outmatch their opponent, but the sale of Newcastle’s Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan may leave the Magpies lacking some of the firepower last year’s team enjoyed. Add into the equation that The Gunners have agreed to terms with coveted prospect Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and the odds seem to stack up against the depleted offence of the Toons.
With a 12th overall finish in the Barclay’s premier League, to say the Magpies have shown some promise in returning to their former glory. As a team with numerous managerial changes since 2005/06, it will be very interesting to see how Newcastle enters this year’s tournament.
Arsenal Newcastle Betting Pick and Tips
I have a tough time ignoring the underdog, and regardless of my gut instinct to support Newcastle, the departure of striker Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan may be too much to overcome, even for an author who seeks out ways to support a losing cause. While Magpie supporters are dying for a return to the top ten, free-transfer acquisition Demba Ba may not be able to fill the holes left by two of
Newcastle’s top players. Hopefully we will see manager Alan Pardew spend some of the money the Carroll sale brought in to help bolster his line-up of strikers.
I simply don’t see Newcastle having the firepower to overcome the perennial powerhouse that is Arsenal. We should be treated to a fairly tight match between clubs looking to prove their position in the Premier League standings, but in the end I see a decisive victory for the Gunners against a game but overmatched opponent. The story of this match should come down to the offense, and the Gunners will live up to their namesake.
My Pick take Arsenal to win 3-1
